“Acer V5-431 can not install Windows 8!”
“” IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL “, help!”

This is the phrase that often comes up when I was looking for a solution to the same problem, it seems this is a common problem for the laptop users. This happens because the default driver (WLAN & AHCI) of windows 8 does not match with this laptop.
As we all know Windows 8 is included with a number of drivers, so it’s like a linux OS, the PC / Laptop could be used without installing the driver again. but when the driver does not match, it becomes a new problem: “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”.
the solution is we must replace the default Windows 8 drivers with the appropriate driver from the laptop manufacturer, in this case the ACER. but how? there are two option; upgrade from windows 7 and clean install.

1. Upgrade from Windows 7.
Install Windows 8 by upgrading from Windows 7 using the “Acer Upgrade Assistant Tool”, can be downloaded here: http://global-download.acer.com/supportfiles/Windows8/Win8UpgAsstTool_1.00.3001.zip
Run the program and follow the instructions , essentially the program will detect the programs / drivers that could cause a problem, and the drivers that need to be updated for Windows 8, this program will help you to download the driver automatically. After that, in the of installation process of windows 8 select the option “Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps”, and follow the instructions. you should be able to enjoy Windows 8 afterwards.

2. Clean install.
Which is rather complicated, by Using an answer file (autounattend.xml) to replace the default Windows 8 (problematic) drivers with the latest drivers from acer website http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers . so the OS would install the latest drivers , not the default (problematic) drivers, which is the cause of the problem “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”.

The Steps; prepare a USB drive at least 4GB
a. copy the windows 8 installation DVD or file to USB drive using this software http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe
you could copy it directly without the software, if you know what you’re doing
b. download the WLAN and AHCI drivers from acer web(adjust to your laptop atheros or broadcom) .

c. create a folder called “drivers” in USB Drive

d. extract the driver which you have downloaded earlier and copy files with the extension *. cab, *. inf and *. sys into the “drivers” folder above

e. Open notepad and copy/paste the following text:

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>
<unattend xmlns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend”>
    <settings pass=”windowsPE”>
        <component name=”Microsoft-Windows-Setup” processorArchitecture=”x86″ publicKeyToken=”31bf3856ad364e35″ language=”neutral” versionScope=”nonSxS” xmlns:wcm=”http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State&#8221; xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance”&gt;
            <DiskConfiguration>
                <WillShowUI>Always</WillShowUI>
            </DiskConfiguration>
            <UserData>
                <ProductKey>
                    <WillShowUI>Always</WillShowUI>
                </ProductKey>
            </UserData>
            <UseConfigurationSet>true</UseConfigurationSet>
        </component>
        <component name=”Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsWinPE” processorArchitecture=”x86″ publicKeyToken=”31bf3856ad364e35″ language=”neutral” versionScope=”nonSxS” xmlns:wcm=”http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State&#8221; xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance”&gt;
            <DriverPaths>
                <PathAndCredentials wcm:action=”add” wcm:keyValue=”1″>
                    <Path>%configsetroot%drivers\</Path>
                </PathAndCredentials>
            </DriverPaths>
        </component>
    </settings>
    <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source=”” xmlns:cpi=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi” />
</unattend>

see line 4 and ~19, when you install the 64bit version, then replace “x86” with “amd64”

save as “autounattend.xml” (not autounattend.xml.txt)

f. now try to re-install Windows 8 using this USB Drive

g. Lastly, please pray that the installation was successful

* Having tried it myself, I finally managed to also install Windows 8 on this laptop, with both option.

* For the second option, AHCI driver can be directly obtained from the extracted driver, which in the IATA_ALL.zip folder, just copy all the files in this folder.

* For the WLAN driver, it must be installed first to get the drivers (*. Inf, *. cat, * sys), so just use the first option, and then copy the WLAN driver that is in the folder /program files/Atheros, if you want a clean install at a later time. {apparently it could be obtained from the Windows 8 upgrade drivers “W8x64U”)

* Once again remember the autounattend.xml files should not be stored in any folder in USB drive

* And also remember when you install the 64bit version, replace the word “x86” to “amd64” in auounatted.xml

* For those who do not want a complicated steps just download the files below,

32bit version:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/SRCB4fnS/drivers_for_32bit.html
http://www.4shared.com/zip/IAUAI5SM/autounattend_for_32bit.html

64bit version:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/e2IePm2y/drivers_for_64bit.html
http://www.4shared.com/zip/H9FSZvXQ/autounattend_for_64bit.html

sorry for my bad english, at least you should be able understand it a little bit
* The author is not liable for any damage that may occur, thank you.
